I recently completed the album artwork for the Chicago-based jazz/rock/instrumental band KamiKazee Vigilante – which was officially released Saturday Jan. 29th at the Double Door. You can check out the album here. Go ahead and “like” them on Facebook as well!

Throughout the 2014 election season, I had the great pleasure of being a go-to illustrator for the production house Adelstein Liston in Chicago. For numerous animated smear ads across the country, I provided illustrations in pieces which were then animated by Adelstein’s very talented staff of motion graphics designers. It was a lot of planning, quick-turnarounds, and wrist-numbing drawing and coloring…but also a ton of fun and a great learning experience.
Below is an example of one of them. Others can be seen in my “Animation Contributions” page.
I was commissioned by Chicago R&B singer Adam Ness to design an album cover and Facebook banner for his 2014 holiday EP. Although it’s not the most intricate and detailed artwork I’ve done recently, it was still significant in that it’s one of the first projects I’ve done entirely digitally. That’s right, folks…No old-school pencil and paper involved here! These were completed using my Monoprice pen tablet and Photoshop CS6.
Happy Holidays!
Here’s the Facebook banner…I rearranged the elements, allowing them to show up clearly on both home computers and mobile devices…
I was asked to design various promotional pieces for a Chicago jazz-funk-fusion band called S’pocket. They wanted an all-purpose poster they could reuse for various shows and a header and profile picture for their Facebook page.
Before sitting down at the drawing table, I had a few of the members over to my studio. After a few beers and some brainstorming, we began joking about “Doc S’pocket and his boxing kangaroo”. I needed hear no more! Below is what came of that wonderful nugget of wierdness…
(All these images were drawn freehand and colored using Photoshop CS6)
Oh yeah… Check out S’pocket HERE
As a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team, I’ve always wanted to do an illustration for the organization. And although Urban Meyer himself has not yet requested one; nonetheless, my friend and graphic designer Kristen Caston asked me to illustrate Brutus the Buckeye for a T-shirt for a Buckeyes bar in Chicago called Butcher’s Tap. Couldn’t have been more honored to help! GO BUCKEYES!!!
Here’s the illustration with the coloring and layout completed by Kristen…
Below are a picture of the “real” Brutus and my original illustration…
And here’s me happily receiving one from Jake, the host of the Buckeye madness at Butcher’s Tap in Chicago. Go Bucks!
Chicago-based R&B singer Adam Ness asked me to design and illustrate an all-purpose poster to help promote his upcoming concerts. For the idea, he actually gave me a rough hand-drawn image of himself based on a dream he’d recently had. He wanted the poster to incorporate that dream while being very vibrant and brightly colored and incorporating the Universe as a background. I drew and inked everything by hand and did all the coloring and background imagery in Photoshop CS6. Enjoy…
He also requested a logo and business card design. I rendered the logo in Illustrator CS6 and made up the business card layout in Photoshop CS6.
